Feeling Depressed, Might Be Your Thyroid

Hypothyroidism is a very common problem with thyroid related illness and can cause you to have low energy, concentration problems, it can affect mood and cause you to gain weight. If you have chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia, I would suggest that this is one of the first things you should have checked. But there are some particularly telling — but little known — signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism that some doctors, and even fewer patients, are aware of, but can help lead to the correct diagnosis.Hypothyroidism is very often associated with hair loss. You may notice a heavier-than-normal loss of hair from the head. Even body hair, — including underarm and pubic hair — may shed or thin. This sort of hair loss can be due to a thyroid problem, but it can also show up with other hormonal imbalances, illnesses, age, and due to genetics and heredity. If you have any unexplained hair loss, and especially, if you have loss of hair from the outer edge of your eyebrows, it’s time for a thorough thyroid evaluation from a knowledgeable practitioner. But one type of hair loss is considered unique to hypothyroidism. It is the loss of the hair in […]

Study Claims Exercise Does Not Decrease Depression

For years, psychologists and physicians have developed studies and conducted research on the affects of depression and exercising to increase serotonin levels, which are suggested to produce endorphins and create feelings of happiness. However, a recent study contradicts this practice and claims that when prescribed without medication, exercise does not decrease depression or its side effects. The study is published in an August 2008 issue of The Archives of General Psychiatry, and found that individuals who exercise may be ss likely to be depressed or anxiousut likely not because they have been exercising, according to a news report of the study done by The New York Times. With information obtained from the Netherlands Twins Registry, Dutch researchers followed 5,952 twins, 1,357 siblings and 1,249 parents. Ranging from 18 to 50 years of age, the individuals answered surveys as to exercise use as well as feelings of depression, all based on a scaled method. The researchers studied both the set of twins and family members in order to better understand and distinguish between genetic and environmental effects. According to the lead author of the study and doctoral student in psychology at VU University Amsterdam, Marleen H.M. de Moor, there was no causal effect […]

Lithium And Its Benefits

Lithium aspartate is commonly used in the natural treatment of hyperthyroidism and other thyroid diseases because it helps in the spreading of iodine evenly throughout the body. Lithium may increase the gray matter nerve cells of the brain by three percent. This mineral is supposedly good for dementia, Alzheimer0s etc. People treated with Lithium have improved memory and reduced rage/anger and salting the water supply with Lithium Aspartate might be an added approach to our community violence prevention programs.
Lithium has long been known to be an effective therapy for Bipolar Disorder (manic depression) when taken in high doses. Lithium ions are believed to act only at particular sites on the membranes of intracellular structures like mitochondria and lysosomes. Lithium in the elemental form has never been shown to have major side effects. Lithium has been helpful in reducing aggressive behavior in children and helps to prevent and control symptoms of mania such as hyperactivity, rushed speech, poor judgment, and reduced need for sleep, aggression, and anger. Lithium aspartate is a health supplement and is much more bioavailable than the forms of lithium used for the treatment of clinical depression.
